Making scatological references in a blog posting is a Lost Art that not everyone can master. So I won’t. I’ll leave that for the gifted few who are so inclined.
Gout rockers and stools were used to provide some relief to people suffering from gout and other ailments of the foot and ankle. (Gout is a disease characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis, often affecting the big toe, caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood.) Benjamin Franklin was a sufferer. Elevating the foot offers some relief from the pain and pressure.
I am not aware of ever having seen a gout rocker before. One day a few weeks before Christmas I found three rockers in three shops within a few miles of one another. All similar but different. How many different ways can you build a small rocker?
The Pegs and ‘Tails blog covers building a grout stool with some historic context here.
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a letter in 1954 about the gout rocker here.

I only collect pictures of furniture. If it were in front of me, I might make a guess as to when it was made. As for the value, I have no idea.
